Ever since 80’s television shows like Miami Vice established Miami as the newest cultural center of the southeast, Ferrari has been the staple of the city’s elite. Cars like the 512 Testarossa and the Daytona 365 GTS have become symbols of Miami’s enduring wealth. The heritage and essence of the Ferraris of old lives on in the newer cars such as the California T and 458 Italia, despite Enzo Ferrari’s philosophy of “what’s behind you doesn’t matter.”
Very few things get better with age; single malt scotch, fine art, tanned leather… I would argue that Pininfarina’s designs and Ferrari’s engines belong at the top of that list. Driving a car like the 458 Spider is a sensory experience. You feel the acceleration as the hand stitched leather seats press into your back. You smell the gunpowder notes in the exhaust and the rubber coming off the tires under hard cornering. You see the revs climb as the lights on the steering wheel begin to light up in unison with the needle climbing toward the red number 9 as the world around you surges toward you. Most of all you hear it, you hear the 4.5 liter V8 sing to you octave by octave, from a roaring tenor to a screaming alto. There is nothing else like it in the world, I promise you.
If you can only do one great thing in your life, forget the Great Wall of China, forget the Great Pyramids of Giza, forget the Eiffel Tower. Drive a Ferrari for a day. It will be the single most memorable day of your life. Now I can ramble about Ferrari indefinitely, but this isn’t about me, this is about you. You’re reading this right now because you like Ferrari almost as much as I do and want to know how you can experience the majesty, the rage, the elegance, and the savagery that is a Ferrari sports car. It pleases me greatly to inform you that through mph club, you can rent a California T, 458 Italia, or even a 458 Spider for a day or even a week. Its up to you.
