Lamborghini owned several vehicles ranging from: Alfa Romeo, Lancia, Maserati and Mercedes-Benz. It wasn’t until he purchased his first Ferrari, a 250GT, that his entire life changed. By 1958, Lamborghini owned several Ferrari vehicles, but considered the exotic vehicle to be a bit noisy and rough for a proper road vehicle. Lamborghini approached Ferrari after the clutch on the Ferrari broke, a piece similar to what he utilized in his tractors. When Lamborghini approached Ferrari he was told that he was just a tractor maker, and what could he possibly know about sports cars. With that moment fresh in his mind, Lamborghini decided to embark on creating an automotive manufacturing venture to bring his vision of the perfect grand tourer alive. Lamborghini was focused on utilizing his skill set to create beautiful, hard working exotic cars.

Within months of establishing his business, Lamborghini put his team to the test. Ferruccio’s desire to go from breaking ground in the spring of ’63 to delivering a concept vehicle in November, with only a rag tag team of designers and engineers was very ambitious, even by today’s standards. Lamborghini worked with Giampaolo Dallara, an engineer who had also worked on a Ferrari V12 engine. With a team in place, Lamborghini’s prototype, the GTV was shown to the public at the Turin Auto Show in 1963.
